Use-based or regulatory standardisation of the HydreManche® foundation structure

  • In its offshore version, the HydreManche® foundation structure offers an innovative solution designed to rationalise and significantly reduce the costs, capital expenditure and accident risks involved in managing renewable energy module arrays.

This is achieved in particular by reducing the number of recurrent towing and electrical connection operations, while also avoiding heavy offshore lifting operations.

For this reason, a standardisation process could be considered in order to provide a legal framework for the construction methods and operational use of the HydreManche® foundation structure.

In addition, even in the absence of a specific regulatory framework, the use of the HydreManche® foundation structure could be recommended, or even required, by insurers when covering tidal turbine or offshore wind arrays, due to the safer and more reliable operating approach offered by the HydreManche® concept.

The HydreManche® foundation structure therefore has the potential to become a normative reference framework, helping to secure the interests of investors, operators and insurers involved in tidal turbine and offshore wind projects.
