mettent en \u0153uvre l\u2019un des projets d\u2019ing\u00e9nierie maritime les plus ambitieux du XX\u1d49 si\u00e8cle : la cr\u00e9ation de ports artificiels sur les c\u00f4tes normandes afin de soutenir le d\u00e9barquement et l\u2019approvisionnement des troupes.<\/p><p data-start=\"1329\" data-end=\"1446\">Parmi les \u00e9l\u00e9ments structurants de ces ports figurent de grands caissons en b\u00e9ton arm\u00e9, appel\u00e9s <strong data-start=\"1425\" data-end=\"1445\">caissons data-start=\"1520\" data-end=\"1734\"><li data-start=\"1520\" data-end=\"1576\"><p data-start=\"1522\" data-end=\"1576\">construites \u00e0 terre, principalement au Royaume-Uni ;<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1577\" data-end=\"1630\"><p data-start=\"1579\" data-end=\"1630\">remorqu\u00e9es individuellement \u00e0 travers la Manche ;<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1631\" data-end=\"1671\"><p data-start=\"1633\" data-end=\"1671\">immerg\u00e9es et positionn\u00e9es sur site ;<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1672\" data-end=\"1734\"><p data-start=\"1674\" data-end=\"1734\">dispos\u00e9es successivement pour former une digue artificielle.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"1736\" data-end=\"1901\">Chaque caisson reposait sur sa masse propre et son assise sur le fond marin.<br data-start=\"1812\" data-end=\"1815\" \/>L\u2019assemblage se faisait directement en mer, dans des conditions techniques exigeantes.<\/p><p data-start=\"1903\" data-end=\"2006\">L\u2019alignement de ces \u00e9l\u00e9ments permettait de dissiper l\u2019\u00e9nergie de la houle et de cr\u00e9er une zone B) a d\u00e9montr\u00e9 qu\u2019il \u00e9tait possible :<br data-start=\"249\" data-end=\"252\" \/>\u2013 d\u2019industrialiser la fabrication d\u2019ouvrages maritimes lourds ;<br data-start=\"317\" data-end=\"320\" \/>\u2013 d\u2019organiser leur transport \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle ;<br data-start=\"369\" data-end=\"372\" \/>\u2013 de coordonner leur mise en place en mer, en conditions r\u00e9elles<\/p><p data-start=\"443\" data-end=\"582\">Cette r\u00e9alisation exceptionnelle, r\u00e9alis\u00e9e sous pilotage britannique, demeure une r\u00e9f\u00e9rence majeure du g\u00e9nie maritime moderne.<\/p><p data-start=\"590\" data-end=\"749\">Les vestiges visibles aujourd\u2019hui au large d\u2019Arromanches rappellent cette capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 concevoir et \u00e0 d\u00e9ployer
