The HydreManche® modular foundation
A shared modular structure for more efficient tidal and wind farm installation
A shared architecture for tidal and offshore wind energy
HydreManche’s innovation lies in combining proven technical solutions, previously used separately, into a single shared architecture. This enables several tidal turbines or offshore wind turbines to be transported, immersed, operated and retrieved on one common support structure.
The shared, network-based design delivers a productivity gain:
- A significant reduction in the technical difficulties involved in offshore operations.
- Reduced installation costs and operating expenses (OPEX).
- Reduced decommissioning costs.
As well as potential eligibility for environmental protection programmes:
- In its offshore configurations, the HydreManche® foundation helps preserve the seabed by requiring little or no drilling or specific seabed preparation.
- The components of the HydreManche® foundation’s support structure can be adapted to help protect marine life and, in some cases, encourage its development. The foundation may therefore qualify for marine environmental protection programmes.
Our objectives:
- To improve the economic competitiveness of Marine Renewable Energy while minimizing its environmental impact.
- To support the local economy by creating hundreds of sustainable, skilled jobs.
- To contribute to our energy independence in an economically viable and environmentally responsible way.
- To support the national economy through the export of this technology.
Standardisation
- The HydreManche® foundation aims to standardise both the design and operational procedures of a farm, from installation and operation through to retrieval. As operating feedback is consolidated, a formal standardisation process may be initiated to provide operators, investors and insurers with a clear framework.
